Early on an autumnal Sunday morning, the relative peace and quiet was broken by a bang as Sally's door flew open.
The teen practically launched herself down the hallway, slippered feet flapping against the wooden floor. She came to a halt just in front of Marcel's door and started knocking on it urgently.
"Marcel! Marcel! It's happened! It's happened!"

As both an endurer of snoring and acknowledged snorer, Marcel was a remarkably heavy sleeper. He could and had been known to ignore the heaviest of sleep apnea and loudest of alarms.
But a loud young woman hammering on his door was, apparently, something else entirely.
The thumping he could almost ignore, but the new voice was what finally dragged him into the world. He blinked blearily at the world in general as he tugged the blankets down and called with surprising clarity, "What happened?"

"I hurt myself!" came the muffled reply through the door. "I've got a papercut!"

"Get a bandaiiiiid," Marcel moaned, pulling the blankets back over his head. Normally he would be thrilled for the chance to show off his fledgling powers, but being woken up at - he peered out from under the covers again and out the window - a fairly reasonable time in the late morning...
Darnit.
He pushed his blankets back, shivering under his thick t-shirt, and made his way to the end of the bed where the ladder was.

Sally tilted her head to the side, trying to figure out if she could hear movement or not. Is he coming out?
"I'd have waited until you got up," she called, "but this is so small it might've healed itself by then! And that's terrible."

He paused halfway down the ladder. "If it's that small why bother?" he asked simply, jumping the short distance left. "You can come in, by the way." He adjusted his boxers, cotton again like his shirt. This weather was far from the balmy sunshine he was used to in Hawaii, and several days had been dedicated to rugging up against it.

Sally pushed open the door, and held out her left index finger so that he could see the blood beading on its tip. "Because," she said, "you've told me what you do, but you still haven't shown me. I really want to see your power in action. I mean, if you don't mind, that is." She gave him a hopeful smile.

Marcel blinked at her. It was hard to tell which of them was the taller, Marcel's hair made the debate needlessly difficult.
But he still smiled at her, sighed "Fiiine," and poked her finger with his own. He had yet to work out the finer points of his powers, but he had so far found that touching a wound and concentrating on it in just the right way usually did the job.

Sally examined her finger with interest. If it wasn't for the faint red smear on the tip, you'd think she'd never been injured at all. "That's really cool," she said, looking up at Marcel again. "What's the biggest thing you've healed?"

Marcel raised his left forearm; a very faint scar was visible, not very long but snaking awkwardly along towards his elbow. "I got cut on some coral when I went swimming. That's how I found out I could do it!" He looked much less tired with the excited grin on his face.
He still remembered it very clearly; how could he not? It was only a few months ago. He'd held the wound tightly as he swam upwards, noticed it was itchier than a scratch that size would suggest, even including salt water into the mix. He'd only just surfaced when he realised it had stopped hurting altogether, and hadn't he been excited to tell his father about it minutes later.

Sally blinked. Coral? Oh, that's right - Hawaii. "Woah. That's crazy. Kind of lucky though, I guess..."

He just shrugged. "I'm a good swimmer, I was back to Dad in a few minutes. I bet he would have made it better again in no time!" His grin never seemed to falter, and now shone with pride. "My dad's the best doctor in Molokai, or maybe all of Hawaii!"

Sally smiled. "No doubt. I just - I meant lucky as in - " She winced slightly. "Pretty lucky to discover it, um - in private."

The grin slipped into an easy smile. "Probably, but I don't really care. My power's awesome, I could help so many people with it one day!" His eyes practically sparkled at the very idea. Marcel was a lot of things, and 'determined' was high on the list.

Sally blinked, and then smiled uncertainly. "Y-yeah, of course." She decided to change the subject. "Hey, how are you settling in, anyway? Have you had a wander around yet?"
